Meet Rod and Debs: The Vision Behind the Stand

Rod & Debs Winrow – Garden House Design

Founded in 1996 by Rod and Debs Winrow, Garden House Design has spent nearly three decades creating exceptional outdoor living spaces. Their Chelsea stands have consistently been among the most admired commercial displays at the show and this year that reputation has been formally recognised once again with an RHS Chelsea 5-Star Stand Award. It is a testament to the quality, creativity and care that Rod, Debs and their team bring to every installation.

This year, the inspiration runs deeper and further afield than ever before.

A World of Inspiration: The Design Story

The 2026 Garden House Design stand draws on Rod and Debs’ travels over the past 30 years, weaving together the textures, rhythms and moods of the cultures they have encountered and lived. From Creative Director Debs’ childhood in New Zealand, to their most recent journeys through South East Asia, the stand is an immersive celebration of what it means to truly live life outdoors, wherever in the world that might be.

Debs describes the feeling they wanted to capture:

“The design behind this year’s stand leans into an international feel inspired by our travels over the past 30 years. When you get time away, you naturally try to spend time outdoors whenever you can, enjoying a cup of tea watching the sunrise, lingering over a lazy lunch most definitely outdoors, then allowing dusk to wrap around you like a cashmere shawl, listening to easy tunes, spilling cold rosé wine, all whilst anticipating a meal probably cooked outside too, lit by candlelight… a vibe we want to help you bring back and enjoy right in your very own garden.”

Look out for distinctive craftsmanship, one-of-a-kind pieces, and considered styling details that reflect cultures from across the globe, alongside lush, considered planting that brings the whole scheme to life.

Designed for Outdoor Living, All Year Round

One of the defining themes of the 2026 stand is the idea that your garden should be usable and enjoyable in every season. The Garden House Design team have created distinct zones from a relaxed, sheltered lounge area and intimate dining space to a fully equipped outdoor kitchen; that together demonstrate how thoughtful design can extend the time you spend outside well beyond the summer months.

At the heart of the stand sits a stunning Renson Amani heated canopy, providing shelter, warmth and atmosphere that makes outdoor living a genuine year-round proposition. Whether it is a crisp autumn evening or a bright spring afternoon, the canopy creates the kind of enveloping, ambient space that makes you want to stay outside just a little longer.

THE CUBIC OUTDOOR KITCHEN: WHERE MILLBOARD MEETS CULINARY DESIGN

Also on the stand, visitors will find a beautiful outdoor kitchen by Cubic Outdoor Living, specialists in premium outdoor kitchens that combine exceptional craftsmanship with considered, durable design. This marks the first collaboration between Millboard and Cubic Outdoor Living at RHS Chelsea Flower Show and it feels like a natural fit.

Millboard’s Board & Batten cladding in Burnt Cedar has been used to finish the Cubic Outdoor Living kitchen island, demonstrating the versatility of our cladding range in a functional, high-end outdoor cooking and entertaining context. The deep, dark grain of Burnt Cedar brings drama and character to the kitchen unit, proving that great design in outdoor living extends well beyond the deck.

MILLBOARD PRODUCTS ON THE GARDEN HOUSE DESIGN STAND

This year sees an expanded Millboard footprint on the stand, with decking extending onto the sheltered lounge area and outer steps along Main Avenue. The products featured are:

Modello Linear, Enhanced Grain in Coppered Oak – including Bullnose and Square Edge Flexi boards. The warm, copper-toned grain of this board brings a refined, contemporary feel to the main living and entertaining areas. Look closely and you will spot the striking chevron laying pattern in the secret garden zone, a detail that rewards a second glance.

Shadow Line+ in Coppered Oak – featured throughout additional areas of the design, continuing the warm tonality of the scheme and demonstrating how Millboard decking and cladding can work seamlessly together across a space.

Shadow Line+ in Burnt Cedar – used as a striking feature wall set against a cascading living mint wall. The contrast between the dark, smoked grain of Burnt Cedar and the fresh green of the living planting is one of the stand’s most arresting visual moments.

PLANTING AND STYLING

This year Garden House Design partnered with Pickmere Nursery and Quercus Nursery as plant suppliers, providing a full and varied selection of species across the stand.

The planting scheme has been thoughtfully designed by Cherry Carmen, Garden House Design’s Design Director, with each species chosen to perfectly complement the atmosphere of this year’s stand. Some of the plants you might recognise include Ostrich Feather Ferns (Matteuccia struthiopteris), Kuro Chiku black bamboo (Phyllostachys nigra) and Spring Symphony foam flowers (Tiarella Spring Symphony). The layered planting, from bold-leaved hostas and delicate astrantia to cascading mint and architectural ferns, provides a rich, tactile backdrop to the outdoor living zones, grounding the international design references in something natural and alive.

The styling and one-of-a-kind decorative details throughout the stand have been carefully curated to reflect the cultural journey at the heart of the design concept, from Asian-inspired ceramic and brass pieces nestled into the Burnt Cedar feature wall, to global textiles and artisan objects discovered on Rod and Debs’ travels. Keep an eye out for the smaller moments as much as the bigger picture.
